about

The Cold Busted label is pleased to present the very first release from the bright, young producer Yellowjacket. Hailing from Porter, Indiana, the 19-year-old shows a lot of maturity on The Spectrum Of Day album. Warm melodies buzz about strong drum patterns, tying together tight hip-hop beats tuned in to various vibes, often feeling both fresh and instantly familiar at the same time. Tracks like the funky ringer "Blazing Noon", the hypnotic and folkish "Begin The Day", and the electric guitar slathered "Dead Of Night" are stingingly sharp in their percussive rhythms, making up the more aggressive examples of the release. Progressively lightening up, "Cold Sweats" is delicately strung while "Grocery Choppin'" and "The Track Of Dawn" make use of soft keys, buoyant bass lines, and soothing atmospheres for a peaceful effect. These beats will be nesting in quite a few downtempo DJ crates, promising much more to look forward to from this young artist.

Nightmares On Wax - Nice vibezzz all round , i will support on my Wax da Box radio show and Wax Da Beach events thx for sending Ease

DJ Moneyshot (Solid Steel Radio / NinjaTune) - Smooth as eggs, if not a bit too moody for me. Grocery Choppin' is well Taxi theme, so I'm loving that, mind. A rapper would kill it on The Track of Dawn, too. Love the idea of ranging through the day. I can see the early beats here in a film - well cinematic. Props, kid.

SimonG (Deep South Audio) - Nice construction of sounds .. reminds me of Fila Brazilla .. catchy summery grooves .. Great for working the day time session ..

Jeff Straw - (Breakshop / Focus@Will / Supperclub SF / 2nd Sunday) - This release is amazing. I can't believe this kid is only 19! WTF.... seriously well thought out and good vibes and feeling throughout the EP.

Quincy Jointz - good and fresh downbeat stuff. Hope to hear more of this talented Yellowjacket-guy soon.

Jamie Topham (CD Pool | JT Music Media Man | Summer Soulstice) - Sweet vibes from Yellowjacket & probably feeling the final 2 cuts the most, nice downtempo production & another cool release from Cold Busted.

J.Sole (KCRW FM) - ...puts the "collie" in "melancholy"

Myxzlplix (Subdivisions Global Radio Show) - Anyone who's said instrumental hip-hop is dead hasn't heard Yellowjacket. The only element lacking is some vocals. But these def stand on their own and are nice to kick back to. Myxzlplix-Subdivisions Global Radio.

Gayle Moore (mmRadio / Beatmixing.com / BeatConcious.org) - Blazing Noon: Rocking you back on your heels while holding you steady - my favorite kind of beats Begin the Day: A beats pastorale Dead of Night: Suspense, goosebumps, moving from one puddle of light to the next on this dark street .... Cold Sweats: Deep vibes, atmospheric Grocery: Lite fare Track of Dawn: This track says: Let's begin again....

RPM Director (KZUU 90.7FM) - These are some of the most crisp beats to come around for a good while now. I like the stripped down and simplistic nature that results in a big sound in many of these tracks. No nonsense, nothing glitzy, just some heavy hitting beats that will make you nod your head well into the frosty evening. Top stuff for sure. xx
